Music Marketing Project Experience

Creating this music marketing project has been a long journey. My group and I started by listening to the song we had selected (Tonight by Phonix, ft. Ezra Koenig) and establishing what vibe we wanted to go for when coming up with our brand. Once we dove deeper into the song, we realized we wanted to go with a colorful '80s vibe. We then decided that it would be best to create an artistic-style music video that was very abstract with the use of match cuts and objects that are symbolic in each scene of our production. From there we got straight to work, we created a schedule of when we wanted to complete our research chart, storyboard, filming dates, and developing or marketing presentation.

Next, we started filming on the day that we had set, January 25th, and immediately realized that we underestimated the number of days we were going to need to film our music video. We followed the storyboard we created and experienced that working with match cuts was going to be more challenging than we expected. Fortunately, my group and I were set to start filming early in the process of our project so we had a lot of time to extend our filming days and work harder on getting the match cuts on point. As we continued to film our music video, we started to get excited about the final result to come. When editing the shots we had, we slowly started to see our vision come to life. Although it is still not done, we can tell that our music video will definitely portray our initial idea and end with a nice outcome.

Additionally, I have really enjoyed the process of creating this project and filming our music video. We made sure to have well-detailed research about our genre and focused on the mise-en-scene that was going to embody our music video. Every time we were filming a new scene of our music video, we kept praising the mise-en-scene elements that we had created. Next in this process will be to finally conclude the filming process and finish wrapping up our marketing presentation. My team and I will focus on the other marketing techniques that are necessary and further build on our brand.
